Special greyhound foster carers needed

Meet, greet and walks with the greyhoundsFrom time to time the Retired Greyhound Trust have greyhounds that have suffered physical and/or emotional harm in the past and are not yet ready to be re-homed in the short term.

Our “special greyhound foster carers” are expected to offer more than just fostering, they are people with knowledge, skill and experience of handling dogs such that they are able to take on these greyhounds that have special needs.

These “specia greyhoundl foster carers” would take these "needy" greyhounds on and help them to recover and move on to be adopted and live a normal life after racing.

If you think you have the expertise to help these beautiful dogs, please contact Geoff Pearce, at the Cornwall branch of the Retired Greyhound Trust on 01872 560629 or Sandra at the Russet Greyhound Sanctuary on 01209 8311.

Please note that although I love greyhounds, own one and and have pages about them on my web site, I am not actually involved with rehoming.

Mitzi is a special needs greyhound

Greyhound looking for a forever home Born: 2007. Sex: Female. Colour: Black.

Mitzi is a lovely girl, her past has left her with some challenges which sometimes involves her behaviour with other dogs. She has been in kennels for far too long.

I have taken Mitzi out three times now on different walks. When a dog approaches her she has been very growly and defensive, and definately needed to wear a muzzle, but when we have just walked along chatting to someone with a well behaved dog she has been happy and relaxed. When we have been on our own, she hasn't pulled on the lead and is very responsive and affectionate.

Mitzi needs her own special, 'Cesar Millan'. Someone who is strong leader and build her confidence, give her the time, space and patience to develop into a happy, sociable girl.

If you would like to learn more about Mitzi and are interested in helping her get a a forever home - please phone Sandra on 01209 831177.
