On the Death of Raku by Stella M. Turk MBE

Now my work is unimpeded by a big black cat
Yet I stare in workless sadness at my papers where he sat Raku,
Raku - I call in vain
No more taps on the window pane
Someone rattling the back door?
No, not Raku any more No more 'presents' in the house
No - Raku's caught his very last mouse
Raku's waiting to be fed!
Oh no he's not: Raku's dead.
